OnePlus 10 Pro camera modes revealed, including one that requires an Apple Mac
We're in the midst of OnePlus 10 Pro tease season, because just like it does before every phone launch, OnePlus is slowly providing more information about its latest phone before a January 11 full unveiling.
Just days after a full spec reveal , wherein we proclaimed that we needed to hear about camera modes before judging the phone, OnePlus has gone and detailed some of the new shooting features the 10 Pro will pack. That's convenient!
These camera modes were designed alongside Hasselblad, marking the second generation of collabs between OnePlus and the Swedish camera company, and it seems that the OnePlus 10 family will really show the fruit of this relationship, because some of the modes sound fascinating.
Some camera samples were also shared - bear in mind, these were shot by a team of professionals likely using top supplementary kit and equipment, so they don't exactly reflect the average shot taken on the phone, just its potential.
OnePlus' new tease details four different camera shooting modes, which will make the most of the three rear cameras - these have resolutions of 48MP, 50MP and 8MP, but we don't actually know what lenses they're paired with for now, other than the fact one is main, another ultra-wide, the third telephoto.
We do know one lens used in the phone though - and that's the first mode teased! What a segue! OnePlus has confirmed that one of the cameras will get an ultra-wide lens, and one with a field-of-view of 150 degrees, which is a lot wider than those we see on most other smartphones (which typically hover around 120 degrees).
This lens will let you take super-wide pictures, for if you want to capture lots of scenery or a big group of people, and it'll also let you take 'fisheye' pictures. We'll share a camera sample of this below, but you'll know the style of photography if you've ever seen a music album cover in your life.
Next up, OnePlus has detailed some changes to the Hasselblad Pro Mode, which is... basically just Pro Mode, which you find on all camera phones, but with some slight tweaks.
In the OnePlus 10 Pro, this mode will shoot in 12-bit color, which is above the standard on phones which is 8-bit or 10-bit, and this means the sensor captures a bigger range of colors, which will be particularly useful if you like to use software to edit a snap after you've taken it.
The phone will also capture in a file format called 'RAW+', which is presumably different to standard 'RAW' in... some way. OnePlus' press release is light on the details, but it seems like RAW+ is a standard RAW picture but with some AI editing done by the phone itself.
The third mode detailed is similar, but for video - it's called Movie Mode and it lets you fiddle with settings like shutter speed and ISO for video. You can tweak these settings while shooting, which should allow for some artistic effects, and you can also shoot in LOG, which is similar to RAW but for video, and will let you color grade footage easier in post.
Finally, we come to the video mode mentioned in the headline: OnePlus Billion Color Solution. This lets you point-and-shoot and take pictures with... well, one billion colors, the clue's in the name - that means the color gamut is wider than on the OnePlus 9 Pro .
You can use this on any of the three rear cameras, and it sounds wonderful for capturing colorful subjects - but there's a catch.
You see, because of the file format the OnePlus Billion Color Solution uses, not all devices can actually open the pictures. In fact, other than the OnePlus 10 Pro itself, only recent Macs can open the pictures, which rather limits their post-capture use. You'll have to use an Apple computer to edit or convert them, unless you've got apps on the phone that can do it.
Hopefully soon, we'll see other devices get compatible with this troublesome HEIF format - but for now, if you want to use this photography feature, you better have a Mac ready too.
Wonder Woman game: everything we know so far
A Wonder Woman game is officially in the works at Monolith Productions, the developer behind Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War .
Revealed at the 2021 Game Awards , with a teaser giving us our first glimpse of the iconic DC superhero, Wonder Woman is set to be a single-player, third-person, open-world action-adventure, that will introduce a whole new original story set within the DC universe. Players will become Diana of Themyscira (aka Wonder Woman) as she "fights to unite her Amazon family and the humans from the modern world", according to publisher Warner Bros.
What's more, this Wonder Woman game will utilize the Nemesis System seen in the Middle-Earth series, which will see players forging deep connections with enemies and allies as they progress through the game. It certainly sounds like this could be a superhero game unlike any we've seen before (and we're seeing a lot of them right now).
There's still a lot we need to learn about Wonder Woman, including its release date, but in the meantime you can read on for everything we know so far about the Wonder Woman game.
Wonder Woman: cut to the chase
Monolith Productions hasn't confirmed when we'll get our hands on the Wonder Woman game - or which platforms it'll land on.
But we can make an educated estimate that we won't see Wonder Woman until at least late 2022 and that it will likely land on PS5 , Xbox Series X , Xbox Series S and PC. We could also see a release on PS4 and Xbox One, but we imagine that (given the game's release is probably a while away) Monolith will be aiming to target the latest hardware without being held back by the last generation of consoles.
The Wonder Woman announcement teaser trailer doesn't give much away, but it does give us a close up look at the hero herself, complete with her iconic Lasso of Truth. It may not be much to go on, but we're suitably impressed with Monolith Production's design take on Diana Prince.
Below, we've rounded up all the latest news and rumors on the Wonder Woman game. Details are a bit thin on the ground right now, but we'll update this page as and when we find out more.
Does it have cross-gen potential?
We don’t yet have confirmed platforms for Monolith’s upcoming Wonder Woman game but the current-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles as well as PC have felt like a safe bet. However, new job listings at Monolith have suggested that last-gen consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, could be under consideration too.
As spotted by SegmentNext , the job listings for senior and advanced systems engineers ask for someone “to develop state-of-the-art rendering technology for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC and any new platforms we adopt.” However, the listings also request “experience developing for either Xbox One or PlayStation 4 (preferably both)” which is interesting to note.
As it is, job listings like these are no guarantee of what consoles the game will eventually launch on and we’ll have to wait for an official confirmation from Monolith before we can start planning the platform on which we’ll be playing Wonder Woman.
A focus on player-driven storytelling In a press release for Wonder Woman, David Hewitt, Studio Head of Monolith Productions teased how the Nemesis System will play into Wonder Woman's storytelling to "push the open-world genre forward" by combining cutting-edge action with inventive narratives".
A familiar lineup of enemies to take down We currently don't know who Diana's main adversaries with be in the Wonder Woman game, but it's almost certain that we'll see some familiar faces from the DC universe. We're hoping that Ares is the primary villain in Monolith's title, with the likes of Cheetah, Giganta, Circe and Doctor Psycho making appearances in some form - perhaps sitting just below Ares in the Nemesis system ranks.
What's more likely (and actually makes more sense) is that Wonder Woman will take on Villainy, Incorporated, as the Nemesis System would work well with the villainous-team dynamic.
An invisible jet Sure, it's cheesy, but we would love to see Monolith (somehow) make Wonder Woman's invisible jet cool. Wonder Woman 1984 did - kind of - but it would be great to see the developer integrate the jet into gameplay in a way that doesn't feel shoehorned.
Combat that feels good One thing we've learned from recent superhero games is that how a hero feels to play is a make-or-break factor. We're hoping that Wonder Woman feels as strong as she is meant to be, with powerful melee attacks and - of course - the ability to Lasso of Truth our enemies.
Utilizing the power of the PS5 and Xbox Series X Going off our last point, we would love to see Monolith adding haptic feedback and adaptive controller support to Wonder Woman, so we can really feel the tension in the lasso or the feel of kicking Cheetah in the face (hopefully). We're also expecting (more than hoping) Wonder Woman to have minimal loading screens despite being an open-world title and to simply look phenomenal.
