Nintendo has announced that you'll be able to play as your Mii in the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. Rather than just using a plain Mii like other Nintendo games, though, Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed that there will be three types of Mii character available. These are Brawler, Swordfighter and Gunner.
Brawlers fight with their bare hands and are fast and powerful characters. Swordfighters, on the other hand, are weapon masters. Gunners, unsurprisingly, have arm cannons and have a variety of projectiles to attack other fighters. As for a move pool, Mii fighters can choose up to four special moves from a total of 12, giving you a total of 36 special moves to pick from.
Of course, the ability to use your Mii also lets you use celebrity Miis, and Nintendo showed off Abraham Lincoln, Ice-T and Elijah Wood as just three examples of Miis you could make and include in the game.
Nintendo also announced that Super Smash Bros for Wii U will be the first Wii U title that will use its brand new "amiibo" figurine platform. Amiibo figurines are essentially NFC figures that can interact with the GamePad and appear as fighters within the game itself. These amiibo fighters can also have data sent back to them as well, letting your individual figures grow and have their own fighting stats.
Nintendo also said that amiibo figures were in development for other games, such as Mario Kart 8, but didn't announce any other games during its Digital Event E3 presentation.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be released during the holiday season later this year. The 3DS version, meanwhile, is due out this summer. Nintendo did not confirm whether Mii characters would be available in the 3DS version of the game.
