Annual tech trade show CES 2022 is back in its non-virtual, in-person form... Sort of. Okay, so various pandemic-related issues have led to many companies pulling out at the last minute, but CES 2022 has still seen the introduction of numerous new smartphones.
We've put together a list of the best announcements we've seen. Some are devices like the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE - phones we've been waiting a while to see - while others are more surprising, such as Vivo's new range.
Don't expect to read about the Realme GT 2 and Realme GT 2 Pro below as these handsets technically weren't shown at CES despite launching in early January. Unlike CES 2021, we didn't hear about a new flagship Samsung phone either. We'll have to wait a while longer to hear about the Samsung Galaxy S22 .
Read on while we take you through the list of every major phone we saw at CES 2022.
Samsung Galaxy S21 FE
Nearly a year after the Galaxy S21 , the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE has finally showed its face. With a starting price of £699 in the UK and $699.95 in the US for 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, the phone sits as a mid-range member of the S21 family.
It has a 6.4-inch FHD+ 120Hz display, which looks suitably vibrant. It also has the same 12MP main and ultra-wide cameras the S21 has, along with an 8MP telephoto lens that replaces the 64MP version on the S21. Its front-facing camera is bumped up to 32MP.
It also offers the same Snapdragon 888 chipset that many other S21 models use, depending on your region. There’s also a 4,500 mAh battery, which can be recharged with a wire or wirelessly. The phone runs Android 12 with Samsung's One UI laid over the top.

OnePlus 10 Pro
Don't get too excited about the OnePlus 10 Pro just yet. Announced as part of CES 2022, OnePlus was quick to point out that the phone will debut in China on January 11, but there's no date yet for a global launch. OnePlus tends to launch phones in March or April so maybe hold off until then if you're tempted.
Tempted you may well be. The OnePlus 10 Pro has three rear cameras with a fourth lens bump that contains the phone's ring LED flash. We don't know the finer details here just yet but there's visible branding for Hasselblad nearby, being the camera company that OnePlus partners with for its shooters.
There's also a notification slider by the camera bump along with a power button on that edge too, suggesting the volume rocker might be on the other side. Count on finding out more when it releases in China later in January.
TCL 30 V 5G
TCL announced two new budget smartphones in the form of the TCL 30 V 5G and the TCL 30 XE 5G. It's the TCL 30 V 5G that's most likely to appeal though, especially if you have a tight budget in mind.
The TCL 30 V 5G has a 6.67-inch 1080p screen with a 60Hz refresh rate, a 5MP main camera, 5MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro lens, and a 16MP front-facing one. It uses a low-end Snapdragon 480 chipset with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. In the US, it will be exclusive to Verizon, but there's no word about elsewhere in the world.
No prices have been unveiled yet but with these specs, we're expecting it to be pretty cheap. This won't be a phone for anyone looking for a long-term solution, but if you're keen to own something cheap and reasonably cheerful, the TCL 30 V 5G could be a decent bet for those short on spare cash.
There's also the TCL 30 XE 5G, which pulls things back to basics even more so than the TCL 30 V 5G. It has a 720p screen, 13MP main camera paired with macro and depth sensors, plus an 8MP front-facing camera. It has a MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
Vivo V23 Pro
Pitched perfectly at selfie-taking lovers, Vivo has come up with the Vivo V23 and V23 Pro, and the V23 Pro is a particular delight. It has two front-facing cameras with a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide lens for group selfies. The 50MP main selfie camera is the highest-resolution sensor we've seen on a front-facing camera globally.
It's also possible to record 4K videos on the front camera with a mode that means all videos can be automatically 'beautified', much like how Portrait mode spruces things up with still images.
Elsewhere, the Vivo V23 Pro offers a 108MP main camera, and 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro lenses. The phone uses a 6.56-inch FHD+ 90Hz display so it should be a likeable option for anyone keen to stream on the move. Performance wise, it uses the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset, which offers 5G compatibility.
Vivo also has the Vivo V23, which offers a similar experience to the V23 Pro but a little lower in spec. It still has two front-facing cameras with a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide option, but the rear camera drops down to a still fairly reliable 64MP sensor. It's also a touch smaller with a 6.44-inch screen - plus it uses a slower chipset in the form of the MediaTek Dimensity 920.
Nokia G400
HMD Global has come up with an impressive set of five new phones under the Nokia moniker but it's the Nokia G400 we're most tempted by.
The top-end of the bunch, it has a 6.6-inch Full HD+ screen with 120Hz refresh rate, a 48MP main camera, 5,000mAh battery, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It's also 5G compatible so it's nice and future proof.
Priced at $239, it's also one of the most affordable ways to try out 5G right now. We haven't had our hands on it yet but it sounds promising on the surface, especially with a potentially gorgeous screen for the price. Expect to see it arrive sometime in the first half of 2022.
Nokia also came out with plenty of other options. There's the Nokia G100 priced at just $149 and providing users with a 6.5-inch HD+ screen, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, three rear cameras, and 5,000mAh battery. There's also the cheaper Nokia C200 with a 6.1-inch HD screen and 4,000mAh battery. That's all we know about it so far. It'll cost you $119 at launch.
Even cheaper still is the Nokia C100 for just $99. It has a 5.45-inch screen and 8MP front and rear cameras.
There's also a Nokia flip phone in the form of the Nokia 2760 Flip for just $79 exclusively from TracFone. Features include an emergency button that can call an emergency contact and share your GPS to them, a small external display for notifications, and the KaiOS operating system.
Astro Slide
Waiting for the 5G BlackBerry phone that we were promised? An alternative phone with a physical keyboard and 5G connectivity was announced at CES 2022. and it's called the Astro Slide.
We've previously seen this phone on Kickstarter, but CES 2022 was the first time the physical phone was shown off and we got to hear about how it'll be coming out soon if you've pre-ordered the phone.
The Astro Slide comes with a physical keyboard that is backlit, and you're able to remap the buttons to your heart's content. As well as 5G connectivity, it comes with a 48MP main camera, two USB-C ports, a headphone jack, a 4,000mAh battery and a Dimensity 800 chipset inside.

How to use a massage gun
A massage gun is a great addition to your workout routine, but to get the best performance it's worth doing some reading before diving straight in.
If you're unfamiliar with massage guns (also known as a percussive massagers), they're hand-held devices similar in shape and size to an electric power drill. Don't let that put you off, though - they're perfectly safe to use, and deliver a soft tissue massage that's as gentle or firm as you like.
The pulsing action breaks up adhesions, encourages bloodflow, and helps clear lactic acid that builds up during a workout.
When you buy a massage gun, you'll usually find that it comes with a variety of interchangeable massage heads designed for different muscle groups. These either twist or push into a socket on one end, and are driven by a motor inside the handle, which causes them to pulse and down.
Consumer massage guns run from a rechargeable battery that typically gives between one and two hours of operation on a full charge. They come in a range of sizes, but if you want one that's convenient for carrying to the gym, the sports club, and the office, we recommend looking out for a small model like the Power Plate Mini+ or Renpho R3 Mini Massage Gun .
Interested in investing in a massage gun? We've rounded up the best prices on a range of devices right here:
Safety first
First, a word on safety. Be careful to only use your massage gun on muscles – never on bony areas or joints. Don't use it on injuries either – a muscle that's a little sore after a hard exercise session is OK, but not a strain or sprain. Don't use it on broken skin either.
Don't hold the massage gun in one location for more than a few seconds to avoid causing bruising, and if it feels uncomfortable, stop straight away. Using the device should never be painful, and there's no need to use the highest settings if you find them too much.
If you have a health condition such as arthritis, osteoporosis, or fibromyalgia, make sure you speak to your doctor before using a massage gun or starting a new fitness routine.
When to use it
After a workout is the most obvious time to use your massage gun, but that's not the only occasion when it can be helpful To find out how to get the most out of your massage gun, TechRadar spoke to Scott Hopson, Power Plate Master Trainer and Advisory Board member.
"Massage guns apply rhythmical pressure currents to the tissues of our body upgrading tissue quality, fluid flow, and mindset," Hopson told TechRadar.
He suggests using a massage gun to prep before you train, practice, or compete "because it upgrades tissues and gets them ready to move with more quality,". You can use it again post-workout "to stimulate the recovery process ASAP. Flush toxins, decrease pain and stimulate relaxation", and between sessions "to ensure we ‘fee’ our tissues from the stressors of daily life, shutting, and postures that create problems."
Karen Brown, Head of Product Design and Development EMEA at HoMedics (another of the biggest makers of massage guns) also offered some advice on when to use your device.
"HoMedics massage guns are ideal to use pre and post workout to help with any tension and soreness," Brown told us. "They are handy to take with you to the gym and even use mid workout if you feel some tension.
"HoMedics massage guns are also great to relax after a long day at work to re-energize and awaken areas of the body that may have been sat in the same position for a while!
"By offering a range of power settings and a variety of different interchangeable massage heads, each treatment can be tailored to your specific needs, targeting different areas of the body for both rapid results and maximum effectiveness."
Where to use it
When you're ready to start using your massage gun, turn it on before placing it on your skin (switching it on while it's against your body can be jarring), and glide it over the muscle you're working on.
Before a workout, you can use your massage gun to target the major muscle groups you're going to be working and get them warmed up.
For example, if you're preparing for a bike ride, you might use it on your quads (the muscles at the front and sides of your thighs), hamstrings (at the back of the thighs), calves, and lower back. Keep the head of the gun moving, and move on to the next muscle group after a minute or two.
It's the same after a workout; focus on the muscles you've been using, and glide the massage gun across each group for up to two minutes before moving on to the next one.
If your shoulders are feeling stiff during the day, you can use your massage gun to target the trapezius muscle. Take care not to place the head of the device directly over your shoulder blade, and keep it away from your spine.
If you're struggling to reach, one of the advantages of a massage gun is that someone else can give you a helping hand, even if they don't have any experience. Ask them to hold it lightly against your skin and let the machine do the work; there's no need to press down with it. If you feel a 'knot', it's OK to hold the gun in place for about 20 seconds or so to help relax the tissues.

For the hosts, Jason Holder has been their main man with the ball so far, while Brandon King's steady-headed half century in game-one impressed many. Eoin Morgan's men remain top the T20 rankings, but they're without star batsmen Dawid Malan and Jos Buttler. Jason Roy, however, is fit and firing again, with spin twins Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali leading the bowling attack.
