Motorola has unveiled another Motorola E6 handset to sit in its budget range of smartphones: the Motorola E6S. It’ll join the excellent Motorola E6 Plus and not-so-excellent Motorola E6 Play in the sub £100 bracket when it goes on sale in the “coming weeks”.
But what can you expect hardware-wise and how does it differ from its stablemates? Good question – especially good because it doesn’t seem to be any different from the E6 Plus...
Motorola E6S: Everything you need to know
Motorola E6S specs: How does it compare to other Motos?
The Motorola E6S is powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 processor, which is the same processor found in the E6 Plus. That’s a good thing, as we found the MediaTek MT6739 that powered the E6 Play extremely sluggish in comparison. The processor is backed by 2GB of RAM and a 3,000mAh battery – again, identical to the E6 Plus.
It also had the same size screen – 6.1in with the same 1,560 x 720 resolution. So, where exactly are the changes? Frankly, your guess is as good as ours. It even looks the same, right down to the central notchlette for the 5-megapixel f/2.2 selfie camera (down from an 8-megapixel one on the E6 Plus).
Round the back is a 13-megapixel f/2.2 snapper supported by a 2-megapixel f/2.4 depth sensor. Again, this feels very familiar – albeit with a slightly narrower f/2.0 aperture on the E6 Plus.
It’ll come out in Peacock Blue and Sunrise Red which is at least a little different to the silver E6 Plus we reviewed last year. It’s also heavier – the E6 Plus was 150g, while the E6S is labelled as being “around 160g”. The E6 Plus also supports microSD cards of up to 512GB, while this only accepts them at 256GB.
In short, as far as we can tell, this feels like a slightly weaker version of the Moto E6 Plus. But...
Motorola E6S price: How much will it cost?
Despite the minor drawbacks, this is a phone that costs exactly the same as the E6 Plus: £99. Given the E6 Plus can be had for under £80 refurbished , that sounds like a tough sell to us.
Still, that makes it £10 more than the E6 Play and, based on how much better the E6 Plus was, that’s an extra £10 that’s well worth spending if you possibly can.
Motorola E6S release date: When can you buy one?
Motorola has yet to confirm a release date, noting only that the E6S will be available in the “coming weeks”. So watch this space.
