This year’s Apple iPad is available to purchase right now. The new tablet is more of a minor refresh than anything else, but a very appealing price tag ought to prove tempting enough for anyone looking to invest in an Apple product.
Prices start at a reasonable £349 for the 32GB model, and rise to £449 for the 128GB model. For the sake of comparison, you can currently purchase last year’s model for £319, although it lacks the type cover support that makes the 2019 model interesting.
Obviously, the new iPad is hardly Apple’s most powerful tablet. The new machine has a 10.2in display that’s a little wider than that of its predecessor, with an A10 Fusion processor inside that will run a little faster. It’s the peripheral support that makes this new tablet so intriguing, however; the iPad 2019 supports both the Smart Keyboard and the Apple Pencil (sold separately).
Better yet, Apple might have finally landed on a winning formula by redesigning iPadOS to better suit the tablet-plus-type-cover combination. In short, your tablet will now act a little more like a tiny laptop, and a little less like an enormous iPhone.
With a physical Touch ID button and nice chunky bezels, the new iPad doesn’t exactly push the boat out, but for £349, that’s to be expected. If you’re looking for a cheap device to serve as a lightweight workhorse, the regular iPad has always been a safe bet, and the 2019 model is shaping up to continue the tradition.
The iPad 2019 is available now at Currys PC World , John Lewis and other major retailers, as well as via the Apple website. If you preordered the tablet, it should be on its way to you as we speak, if it hasn’t already arrived.
